Look at when your enquiries come in. For most businesses that sell to the public, a big share land after six in the evening or at the weekend, which is exactly when nobody is there to answer.

Most of those questions are the same ten questions. Do you cover my area. How much roughly. How soon can you come. Do you do this particular thing.

An AI assistant on your website can answer those properly, at any hour, and pass the person to you with everything already collected.

What a good assistant does

It answers using your information: your services, your areas, your price ranges, your opening hours, your policies. Not general knowledge from the internet.

It asks the questions you would ask, then captures the name, contact details and what they need.

It knows when to stop. Complaints, anything unusual, and anything where a wrong answer costs money get handed to a person straight away.

What a bad one does

It invents prices. It promises appointment slots that do not exist. It cheerfully answers questions about things you do not sell. Most of the horror stories come from assistants that were given a personality and no rules.

How to build one sensibly

Write down your answers first. Collect your twenty most common questions and how you actually answer them. This document is the heart of the whole thing, and writing it is useful even if you never build anything.

Give it firm boundaries. It should only answer from that material, quote price ranges rather than exact prices unless you are certain, and say "let me get someone to confirm that" when unsure.

Make the handover excellent. When it collects a lead, it should land in your inbox or CRM with a tidy summary, so you can reply properly first thing.

Read the conversations every week. You will spot questions you never thought to answer, and the assistant gets better every time you add them.

Typing or talking?

A website chat assistant suits businesses whose customers browse. If your customers tend to phone, a talking voice agent that answers the phone does the same job and usually has an even bigger effect, because missed calls are the most expensive leak most small businesses have.

We build both. Try the free AI adviser to see which fits your business better, or get in touch and we will tell you honestly.
